Chapter 9: Signal Controllers | Clocks, CV, TRIG, SEQ, TRACKER, ARPEGGIATOR
⚛ A melody is a pre-programmed or improvised algorithm.
⚛ Additional Information
⚛ The following is a transcript of the narration:
✸ Signal Generators: VCO and LFO
✸ A VCO is a Voltage Controlled Oscillator.
✸ The oscillator, in it's simplest form, generates periodically repeating waveform of user defined frequency and user selectable shapes.
✸ This gives the audio the sensation of a single note..
✸ LFO normally oscillates at frequencies well below the audio range.
Patch 7 Trigger
⚛ The following is a transcript of the narration:
✸ Patch 7 Trigger
✸ Send Trigger output 1 to Gate input of the Envelope to trigger it.
✸ Connect Triangle wave output of VCO 2 to VCA audio input 1.
✸ Output of the Envelope connect to CV input of the VCA.
✸ Send the control voltage and audio signal in.
✸ Adjust the tune of the VCO and parameters of the Envelope, and notice that the continuous tone transformed into a kick.
Patch 8 Sequencer
⚛ The following is a transcript of the narration:
✸ Patch 8 Sequencer
✸ Send Trigger 1 output to the splitter and feed both the Envelope Gate input and Clock-in input of the Sequencer.
✸ Output of the sequencer send to 1 V / Octave input of the VCO 2.
✸ Triangle wave output connect to VCA audio input 1.
✸ Output of the Envelope send to VCA CV input.
✸ Open Signal and Control Voltage inputs.
✸ Adjust the envelope and sequencer steps until you hear a simple melody.
Patch 9 Arpeggiator
⚛ The following is a transcript of the narration:
✸ Set VCO 1 to LFO mode and connect the output to a splitter.
✸ Feed Arpeggiator trigger input and Gate input of the Envelope with the LFO.
✸ Output of the Arpeggiator connect to 1 V / Oct Input of the VCO 2.
✸ Send Triangle wave output to VCA Audio input 1.
✸ Open Signal in and Gain.
✸ Output of the Envelope Generator connect to CV input 1.
✸ Open the CV in and close Gain of the VCA.
✸ Choose Chord, Mode on the Arpeggiator and adjust Envelope parameters to make the melody clearer.
✸ Changing rate of the LFO affects playback speed.
Bonus Patch
⚛ The following is a transcript of the narration:
✸ Bonus Patch
✸ Starting from previous patch, take the triangle wave output and send it to VCF audio input.
✸ Connect VCF Low Pass Output to VCA Audio input 1.
✸ Second output of the Envelope send to Resonance CV input of the VCF.
✸ Open the Cut Off, Reso CV input and Resonance on the VCF.
✸ Playing with time range of the Envelope and Cut Off of the VCF results in change of timbre and dynamics.
✸ Feed Cut Off CV input with LFO.
✸ Notice variety of sounds you can generate with that patch.
